She Had A Dream

Really! Founder and President Ruth Thompson had a dream two nights in a row. She dreamed she created a non-profit Cafe that would be run and operated primarily by adults with special needs and she has made that dream a reality. Hugs Cafe is located in Downtown McKinney Texas and is a great place to have lunch and get a hug from someone in your community. I love it!

The mission of Hugs Cafe is “to enhance the lives of adults with special needs through training and employment.” This is more than just a statement, it’s ingrained in the very soul of Ruth and her amazing team. In everything they do, they strive to fulfill their mission of “changing the world one hug at a time.”

The Menu

Their menu consists of Sandwiches soups, salads, and desserts. Their chef’s special is the Chickie Hug, a chicken salad sandwich piled high with fresh spinach, cucumbers, and tomato. And you can not leave without trying Hugs signature wedding cake cookie! See the menu HERE

Hugs Prep

If you have a person with special needs in your family, you may be interested in having them attend Hugs Prep. Hugs Prep is a culinary and hospitality class offered at Hugs Cafe to provide training and job placement assistance to adults with special needs. You can find more information here

Hugs would not be possible without volunteers. Hugs believes in a philosophy of offering hope, understanding, grace, and success to their teammates so they can thrive in their jobs and feel the joy of purpose.
